If students have an immersed, dramatic experience of the challenges that African-American slaves faced fleeing from the American south between 1800 and 1850, then they will have a deeper understanding of what it would have been like at this time in Canadian history so that they can connect and describe the relationships to the land and to each other using the social studies inquiry process and the provided differentiated instruction choice chart.
