Optional Attendance

Students have the opportunity to access schools outside of the school that is designated to serve their residential address by applying on optional attendance. Acceptance at these schools is subject to space availability and program suitability. The procedures, conditions and timelines relating to optional attendance are described in the Optional Attendance Policy and Optional Attendance Operational Procedures. Opportunities are now OPEN for the 2021- 2022 school year. If you are interested in Optional Attendance for next school year, please visit the TDSB website by clicking here for information. Deadline to submit, is January 29th, at 4:30 p.m.

Each year schools are classified as limited or closed to optional attendance based on the space they have available for the upcoming school year. Please ensure a school/program is accepting applications before you submit to them. When a school is closed - no applications can be accepted. The Board will post the status of a school and/or program on the Optional Attendance page each December.

A school or program classified as limited can accept students on optional attendance. A limited school is not obliged to accept all students who apply on optional attendance. Acceptance is conditional upon space being available in the appropriate grade and program.

A school or program classified as closed cannot accept any students on optional attendance. Only students residing within the school's attendance area will be accepted.

If a school is classified as limited, and you are interested in applying to that school, you must submit the application by January 29th, 2021.

Please note that Optional Attendance status is updated every December for admission in September of the coming school year. Many school that are limited have their available spaces filled through the Optional Attendance process.

IMPORTANT DATES:

DEADLINE: January 29th, 2021, 4:30 p.m.
Optional attendance forms via EMAIL to sue.connor@tdsb.on.ca OR via FAX at (416) 394-6987. Please retain confirmation of your successful fax transmission.

DEADLINE: February 12th, 2021, 4:30 p.m.
Parents/Guardians will be notified by the school of the status of your application request.

DEADLINE: February 26th, 2021, 4:30 p.m.
Course Selection Sheet due to secondary school.

Note: It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to ensure the application to the school or schools of choice is received prior to the deadline of January 29th, 2021 by 4:30 p.m.
