Principal's Message

Welcome to York Mills Collegiate Institute. The school is located on York Mills Road between Bayview and Leslie Avenues.

The school offers a wide range of curricular programs, including French Immersion, from grades 10-12. Grade 9 courses are not available at the school. With approximately ninety percent of our graduates applying to university, most courses are offered as academic in Grade 10 and University/College preparation in grades 11 and 12.

Our 1100 plus students and staff work together to create a learning environment that is clean, orderly, safe and secure. Over the years, York Mills C.I. has established a very fine reputation for academic achievement and for providing students with opportunities to participate and develop their leadership skills through their involvement in a variety of extracurricular activities.

Principal’s Notes - June 16, 2017

Last week on Friday, June 9, I had the pleasure of visiting the Club Awards celebration that took place after school in our Cafetorium. Congratulations to all students, especially club award recipients, for their wonderful contribution to clubs this past year. A special thank you to Student Council, and staff advisors Ms. Gluskin and Ms. Pandurevic for a planning a terrific club awards ceremony.

The annual Athletic Banquet took place on Tuesday, June 13. Our student athletes dressed up for an evening of award presentations, dinner and dancing. Congratulations to award recipients and to all students who participated in school athletics this past year. Our school athletics program depends entirely on our volunteer teacher coaches. Thank you to all our coaches under the leadership of Mr. Kung and Mr. Lee for supporting an incredible year of school athletics! We extend a very special thank you to our YMAC students, Mr. Kung, Mr. Lee, and Ms. Chow for organizing the Athletic Banquet.

Yearbooks were distributed to all students yesterday in Home Form. I would like to congratulate our Yearbook Committee, Spectrum, on their beautiful and memorable yearbook. I extend a very special thank you to staff advisors, Ms. Wong and Mr. Lindala, for their hours of dedication to support and oversee this important production.

Trustee’s Coffee Get Together:

You are invited to join Trustee Gerri Gershon for a Coffee Get Together on Friday, June 23 at 9:15 a.m. at Longo’s on Laird. Please see the attached flyer.

Graduation Ceremony and Tickets:
Graduating students who plan to attend the Graduation Ceremony must purchase a Grad Pack ($40) from the Main Office. The Grad Pack includes one grad ticket, two guest tickets, cap & gown, and a professional digital-photograph of the graduate receiving their diploma. Each additional guest ticket costs $20, and can be purchased at the Main Office until Wednesday, June 28. Note: tickets will not be available for purchase on June 29.

Our annual Graduation Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at The Peoples Church (374 Sheppard Avenue East). The Graduation Ceremony is expected to conclude at approximately 1:00 p.m. Please note that the school will be closed on this day.

Letter for Potential Graduates:
A letter for potential graduates was distributed on June 5, and sent via email to all parents/guardians of Grade 12 students. A copy of the letter is attached.

Last Day of Classes:
Monday, June 19 will be the final day of scheduled classes for this school year. This will also be the last day of cafeteria services. (Please note this change of date regarding the cafeteria).

Tutorial Morning:
Tutorial Morning will take place from 9:00 a.m to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20. There will be no scheduled classes, however, teachers will be available in their classrooms to provide extra help as students prepare for exams and other final activities. Note: Exams will take begin in the afternoon on this date.

Examination Period:
Exams will take place from Tuesday, June 20 through Tuesday, June 27. There will be NO cafeteria services. A copy of the Examination Schedule is attached.

Opportunity to View Exams:
Students will have an opportunity to view their exams on Wednesday, June 28 in the morning. Students will follow the schedule below:

Semester 2, Day 1
Period 1 9:00 a.m.
Period 2 9:30 a.m.
Period 3 10:00 a.m.
Period 4 10:30 a.m.

Report Card Pick-Up:
Reports cards for Semester 2 will be available for students to pick-up on Friday, June 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Summer Office Hours:
July 3 – school closed for Canada Day
July 4 to July 13 - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
July 14 – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
August 21 to August 31 – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
September 1 - 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

School Year 2017-18:
The first day of school for 2017-18 will be Tuesday, September 5. An information package will be mailed in August for all returning and new students. If your home address has changed, please notify the Main Office prior to June 30 to ensure that you receive this important package.

Guidance Updates

Summer School Information:
• For face-to-face summer school classes in July 2017, please refer to for full details, course offerings, school locations and registration procedures. Registration opens May 1 at 10am and closes June 23 for Counsellor approval.

Please note that students need to make a course request via E-REG, print the parent consent form sent to their emails and make an appointment with their Counsellor to have their request(s) approved in order to be enrolled in the course. Please bring the signed consent form to the appointment. Also, please note that student may only register for one course in July and one course in August with the TDSB.
