e-Learning Day School

TDSB e-Learning Day School Courses

TDSB e-Learning Day School is open to students currently attending a TDSB secondary school and under the age of 21.

TDSB e-Learning courses are developed by the Ministry of Education and delivered online by TDSB teachers. These courses are primarily asynchronous, with students working through digital resources such as learning modules, videos, websites, and discussion groups. The courses cover the same expectations as regular day school courses.

Students are expected to spend 75–90 minutes daily on coursework. This includes on average 60 minutes per week of synchronous learning, where teachers deliver a live lesson. Lessons are recorded so students may attend live or view them later. Teachers also provide support through posted materials, tutorials, office hours, and individual conferences.

e-Learning courses count toward the Ministry’s Online Graduation Requirement . For more information about the Ministry of Education's Online Graduation requirement, please click  here.

Virtual (Remote) Courses
Virtual/remote courses differ from e-Learning Day School courses. Virtual (Remote) classes are fully synchronous, with mandatory attendance during a specific period of time per school day. Students must be online with their teacher and classmates for the entire class. These courses do not count toward the Online Graduation Requirement.

e-Learning Enrollment

  • TDSB Secondary students (under the age of 21) may take  one e-Learning Day School course per semester, as part of their regular timetable.
  • Students must remain enrolled in courses at their home school, while taking an e-Learning, for the duration of the semester.
  • Guidance Counsellor approval of each students’ e-Learning Day School course selection is required.

Orientation
At the start of each semester (September and February), students are invited to an online, after school orientation session to meet their e-Learning teacher. Recordings are available for late registrants.

Important

Although e-Learning courses are asynchronous, they are not self-paced. Assignments and evaluations must be completed by the due dates outlined in the course.

e-Summer School

TDSB e-Summer Program
Our popular online summer program runs in two sessions, throughout July and August, and is open to secondary students across Ontario, ages 14–20.

e-Summer courses are developed by the Ministry of Education and taught by TDSB teachers. They are primarily asynchronous, with students working through modules, videos, websites, and discussion groups.

Students are expected to commit 6–7 hours each school day to their e-Summer course, which includes about 1 hour of synchronous learning. Teachers deliver a live lesson each school day, which is recorded for students who cannot attend in real time. The rest of the expected daily class time is asynchronous, with support available through posted materials, tutorials, office hours, and individual conferences.

e-Summer courses count toward the Ministry’s Online Graduation Requirement. For more information about the Ministry of Education's Online Graduation requirement, please click here.
