Hillside’s outdoor classroom is located near the zoo and adjacent to the Rouge Park, Canada’s largest urban park, over 47 km2 of natural landscapes waiting to dazzle you with its spectacular forests, meadows, ponds and wetlands.
Students visiting Hillside are introduced a wide array of programs with a focus on an aspect of The Ontario Curriculum. Direct, hands-on outdoor experiences deepen connections to nature and enhance children’s health and well-being.
Our programs provide education about the environment, in the environment and for the environment as outlined in the Ministry of Education’s policy framework on environmental education, Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow. They are designed in collaboration with visiting teachers so that it enhances and strengthens the programs that teachers are delivering in their own classrooms. We would like to help support your programming. Please contact us for ideas on activities, websites, books etc. that may be useful.
