Helping Others Discover

the Wonders of the Rouge

We are currently booking for the 2023-2024 School Year.  Trips and waitlist requests can be booked through a new process.  The booking application can be signed into by TDSB staff and found at: https://toes.tdsb.on.ca

Hillside Outdoor Education School is located in Scarborough, adjacent to the Rouge Urban National Park, Canada’s largest urban park.  We are one of nine outdoor education centres within the Toronto District School Board and offer safe, active and enriching learning experiences by immersing students and staff in natural and urban environments.  All of our program offerings are specifically designed to connect students with the Ontario Curriculum through hands-on, inquiry based learning in the outdoors.

Our programs provide education about the environment, in the environment and for the environment as outlined in the Ministry of Education’s policy framework on environmental education, Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow. They are designed in collaboration with visiting teachers so that they enhance and strengthen the content that teachers are delivering in their own classrooms. Following up with activities based on the learning that happened will help consolidate student understanding.

"Photo a Day" of the Rouge

Check out the "Photo a Day" video of the Rouge Valley in the 2015-16 school year created by Hillside Staff and interns Emma and Shannon. We took a photo near our school every day from Sept. 2015 - June 2016.  This is what we came up with.  Enjoy!
