Each year, since 2001, Hillside has honoured a school or staff member(s) with the Bruce Daly Environmental Award.  This award was originally created to recognize and honour the contributions of Bruce Daly, a former principal, who believed strongly in environmentalism.

This award is given to a person or school who display leadership in promoting and encouraging environmental awareness and activism with the school community.

Some of the criteria for the award are:

• provide opportunities for students to experience the natural world outdoors
• display a willingness to foster links and positive environmental choices and
• to facilitate a sense of care for the school community.
