Literacy

All teachers at Marc Garneau work to support all of our students with their literacy needs.  Each year students are required to write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).  All students must pass this test with a minimum mark of 70% in order to graduate from high school.  Students write this test for the first time in Grade 10.

This year the OSSLT will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.

  • Or check our MGCI's one page Guide to Success on the OSSLT for an overview and tips for success.

After School Literacy Classes

Students who need extra help to prepare for the test are invited to attend After-School Literacy Classes. Classes start in September and run throughout the year. Start dates and time of classes wil be announced in the fall. Traditionally, there are classes available every day from Monday to Thursday.  Our results show that students who participate in after-school literacy classes have a higher success rate on the test.
