Dear MGCI Parents/Guardians/Caregivers/Students:

The school year is now officially in full swing and the building is alive with extra curricular opportunities! We know that one of the best ways for students to feel a sense of belonging to the Garneau community is through extra curricular involvement. There are already a myriad of sports teams starting up, the Radio Club, Student Ambassadors, the robotics team, library helpers, the school paper The Reckoner, and much much more!

The Clubs Fair on September 28 is a great way for your child to explore all that Garneau has to offer and to make lifelong friendships along the way! Daily announcements (found on the bulletin board outside the main office and through the TDSB Connects App), the MGCI SAC Instagram Account and posters throughout the hallways are all excellent ways to find out what’s available.

If you have any questions around extra curricular activities and opportunities, please do not hesitate to ask!

Gillian Evans, Principal

  1. Worth Repeating - 1:1 Devices for all Grade 9 Students and Grade 10/11 Newcomer Students

Starting in September 2021, the TDSB launched a 1:1 Student Device Program for students in Grades 5 and 9. The program offers students a district-owned and managed Chromebook for educational use. This device will be assigned directly to the student and will stay with them over a four-year period, 24/7, only to be returned once leaving the TDSB.  Students will be able to take them home each night, on weekends, and over holidays, and will be required to bring them to school each day to support their in-class learning.  Please make sure that you complete the Student Device User Agreement that will be emailed out shortly to all parent(s)/guardian(s) via Permission Click as soon as it’s received, so that there isn’t a delay delivering devices to students. Paper copies in multiple languages are available in the library. Devices will be distributed in October when they are received from the TDSB.

  1. Worth Repeating - Student Activity Fee

Students/parents/caregivers are asked to pay for the Student Activity Fee of $20.00 dollars using School Cash Online.  If you have not already registered for School Cash Online at your current school, please do so. Please visit https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com and select “Get Started Today” and complete the registration process. Once registered, you will receive email notifications when items become available online. The Student Package includes: a Student Card, a multitude of activities throughout the year, and the online Agenda App (TDSB Connects).

  1. Worth Repeating - School Calendar and Vacation Planning

The 2023-24 School Calendar is now available on the TDSB website. Please click here for Exam and holiday dates. Please note that we will be scheduling final Exams and culminating activities for the 2023-24 school year in both January and June. A reminder that vacations are not considered a legitimate absence from instructional days or Exam days. Every effort should be made to avoid scheduling family vacations during school time. In the event of a missed evaluation due to a family vacation, teachers are not required to provide an

alternative form of evaluation or Exam and a mark of zero may be assigned.
