Instrumental Music

Milliken has many talented musicians! Our students begin to learn about musical instruments in the Primary Grades, working with various rhythm instruments. In Grade 4, students are given the opportunity to learn how to play the recorder and some groups may perform at our Spring Concert. In Grade 5, students progress from their recorder to a wind or percussion instrument. They begin their training to become a part of Milliken's Band the following year. Students in Grades 6-8 participate in the Milliken Band, practising weekly and participating in sectional workshops. The Band performs at both the Winter Holiday Concert and the Spring Concert, and our Grade 7 students perform at our Grade 8 Graduation Ceremony.

In addition to this busy schedule, students in our Instrumental Music programme participate in the annual Kiwanis Music Festival. We are priviledged to be able to particiapte in combined workshops and concerts with our associated High Schools, Albert Campbell C.I. and Dr. Norman Bethune C.I. Our students also benefit from excursions to hear the Toronto Symphony Orchestra perform, as well as various guest musicians who perform for us at our school.
