In collaboration with SmartSAVER, the Toronto District School Board has launched a board-wide campaign to help families access free money for their children’s future education. Research shows that even a small amount of education savings can improve student achievement, well-being, equity of opportunity and outcomes. Through this campaign, we can help an estimated 50,000 TDSB students access as much as $100 million dollars in free education money through the federal government’s Canada Learning Bond.
Starting May 2, families are encouraged to open a no-fee, no contribution required Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) through SmartSAVER’s safe and secure online application available at with their choice of financial institution.
The Canada Learning Bond is a kick-start government contribution into the RESP of a child born since 2004 whose family has received the National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS). Even one year of previous eligibility for the NCBS will allow a child to take advantage of the Canada Learning Bond.
Next week, all TDSB elementary and middle schools will receive a kit that includes postcards that can be distributed to families with information on the Bond and how to apply and posters to help build campaign awareness in your school community.
For each successful Canada Learning Bond application generated by the TDSB, SmartSAVER will donate $25 to the TDSB to be used for technology in the classroom.
For more information on the campaign, please visit or contact Vicky Branco, System Superintendent, Inner City, Community Investment and Model Schools or 416-395-6742.

Update on Progress Reports

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As ETFO has directed its members to NOT prepare report card comments or complete or package progress reports, we are unable to issue Kindergarten to Grade 8 elementary progress report cards between November 6 and 12, as previously scheduled. Should a tentative agreement be reached with ETFO, we will revisit the situation.

In addition, ETFO has directed its members to NOT conduct parent/guardian interviews that are related to progress reports unless the teacher identifies a concern about a student’s progress.
