Code of Athletics

  1. Inter-school Academic Eligibility:

Participation in extra-curricular activities is highly encouraged. Student-Athletes are always students first. Any student playing school sports must satisfy one of the following conditions at the time of competing on a particular school team or individual sport:

  • Must be passing three (3) out of four (4) credits as of their most recent final or mid-term report card.
  • Must be passing all of their credits if taking three (3) credits or less as of their most recent final or mid-term report card.

a. Marks will be determined by the most recent report card available (1st & 2nd Semester: Mid-term & Final).

b. Participation in fall sports will be determined by the final report in June.

c. Athletes who fail to meet eligibility requirements will not be allowed to participate in any inter-school activity until the next reporting period.

d. Beginning a sport does not guarantee an athlete’s completion of that sport if he/she becomes ineligible during the season.

e. Graduating year: Athletes who are in their graduating year (or have graduated and are up-grading) are only expected to be passing the credits needed. (This must be

f. Declared to the Athletic Director (ACL of HPE) and to the Guidance Department).

 

  • Athletes who are ineligible are not allowed to participate on any team or team functions. This includes practices, exhibition games, tournaments, or any other team function.
  • Appeals: Must be received within two days of receiving notice of the student’s ineligibility. Appeals are made to the Academic Eligibility Cmte (Principal, Guidance, ACL of HPE)

2. Quitting or being removed from a team:

  • Should an athlete quit a team, or be removed from a team, and the coach and Athletic Director are dissatisfied with the reason, the student-athlete will not be able to participate in any other sport during that season.
  • The suspension may be extended from all athletics for up to one full calendar year commencing from the last day of the season.
  • Appeals: Must be received prior to start of the season.

4. Appeal:

An athlete may appeal a decision by putting a request (in writing) to the Curriculum Leader of Athletics. The appeal committee will consist of the Principal, Guidance Counsellor and HPE teacher. All decisions by the appeal Committee will be final.


Athletic Spectator Admission Requirements

Regular Season and Exhibition Games:

  • Only students from the “host” or “home school” are permitted to attend.
  • A Student Activity Card with photo identification may be required for entry as a spectator into the competition venue.Full uniform is required and no food/beverages or school bags are allowed.
  • Parents/guardians and third party adults (scouts, press, other coaches) must be vetted and/or obtain a Visitor’s Pass from the main office of the host school.
  • No pupil coats, hats or bags, of any kind, are permitted in the Gym area.
  • Only students from the competing schools are permitted to attend if an administrator/delegate from the competing school is present.
  • A Student Activity Card with photo identification is mandatory for entry. (or the spectator is vetted by his/her principal)
  • Parents/guardians and third party adults (scouts, press, other coaches) must obtain a must obtain a Visitor’s Pass from the main office of the host school.
  • No pupil coats, hats or bags, of any kind, are permitted in the Gym area.

(Students from the “visiting” school may attend only if the principal of the host school agrees, and the visiting school sends staff to supervise).

  • Only students from the competing schools are permitted to attend if an administrator/delegate from the competing school is present.

Physical Education Medical Information Form:

Each student who participates in Physical Education Classes or Intramural or Team sports must complete a Medical Information Form as is required by the TDSB Safety Guidelines.

The form will be handed out to students by the respective teachers/coaches prior to the beginning of the sporting activity or Physical Education Classes.

It is highly recommended that families purchase insurance made available in September for a nominal fee.
