TRIP TO FRANCE

In March 2016, we spent 10 days in Paris, the Loire and the Riviera! The sights were amazing and the chance to experience French culture and speak with locals was incredible.  We are again offering this trip in March 2020 and hope to report back on all the experiences we had.

To further enrich our program, French students go on excursions to French places in Toronto, such as Café Crêpe and Le Théâtre français de Toronto. This year, we would like to view a film at Cinéfranco, the International Francophone Film festival of Toronto and we will participate in a workshop at Le Salon du livre.

Secondary French Programs

Students may continue Core French, Extended French and the French Immersion studies at the secondary level for grades 9-12. Up-to-date information is available on our dedicate site.


Certificates
 

The TDSB offers a certificate to all students who successfully complete the Core French, Extended French and French Immersion programs. Below you will find the descriptions of those certificates. 

Core French: Students who complete all 4 credits (Grades 9-12) in Core French qualify for a Certificate of Achievement in Core French. Most secondary schools offer Core French through Grade 12.

Extended French: The aim of the Extended French program is to develop students’ French-language knowledge and skills and to provide them with an understanding and appreciation of francophone culture in Canada and around the world. By the end of the four-year program, with continued dedication and practice, students will be able to converse freely on familiar topics; will be able to read books, magazines, and newspapers in French; and will be able to function in a French-speaking community. 

To qualify for the Certificate of Bilingual Studies (Extended French) students must complete 7 credits in French (4 credits in Extended French and 3 credits in subject courses where French is the language of instruction). Students completing 8 or more credits in French qualify for an Honours Certificate of Bilingual Studies (Extended French).

French Immersion: The aim of the French Immersion program is to develop and refine students’ ability to communicate in French as well as to expand their knowledge of the language through the study of francophone literature. By the end of the four-year program, with continued dedication and practice, students will participate easily in conversations and discussions; will be able to take courses at the college or university level in which French is the language of instruction; and will be able to accept employment in which French is the working language.

To qualify for the Certificate of Bilingual Studies (French Immersion) students must complete 10 credits in French (4 credits in French Immersion and 6 credits in subject courses where French is the language of instruction). Students completing 11 or more credits in French qualify for an Honours Certificate of Bilingual Studies (French Immersion).
