SCHOOL CLUBS, SPORTS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

All sanctioned school activities are under the regulation of CAPUT and have a School Staff Sponsor attached to them. Oakwood has a wide range of before school, after-school and lunchtime activities ranging from clubs to special interest groups and intra-mural sports teams. We also have new clubs each year, depending on student interest and staff sponsor availability.

ELIGIBILITY POLICY

Oakwood C.I. encourages you to get involved in extra-curricular activities. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that their academics are in order. You are a student first. Your academic commitment and success come before extra-curricular involvement.

This policy is in place for all teams, activities, and leadership programs. Teachers will monitor students’ progress and inform coaches/supervisors if a student’s progress is being affected by their participation. Coaches/supervisors are responsible for posting student names in the Main Office. The Academic Eligibility Committee is comprised of the school principal, a guidance counsellor, and a member of the ACL team.

A student is academically eligible if he/she is a full-time student and has no failing marks on their last report card. Summer courses may be considered when determining a student’s eligibility.
A student must maintain satisfactory attendance, punctuality, and responsible behaviour to remain eligible.
On the day of an event, participating students are expected to be in class until the time of the early dismissal for the event and, if they return before the end of the school day. Unexplained absences on the day of an event will result in a suspension from future participation.
A student who has failed ONE subject on the previous report card will be notified of their status by the Academic Eligibility Committee. The student will be monitored by the coach/supervisor. They will remain eligible as long as conditions #2 and #3 are met.
A student with TWO failed subjects is ineligible. The student may ask the Academic Eligibility Committee for an appeal, but the Committee is not obliged to grant any appeal requests. Students can appeal only once each year. Students with THREE or more failures are ineligible and cannot appeal to the Committee.
The Academic Eligibility Committee may determine that a student be on probation. Probation would allow a student to attend practices or events outside of regular school hours as long as conditions #2 and #3 are met.

Fall teams/activities - the previous year’s June report card

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the academic success of all students participating in extra-curricular activities is not jeopardized.This policy only applies to extra-curricular activities.
