Special Education Programs

Oakwood's DD Program

Students attend a fully self-contained program housed in it's own wing on the second floor.  Students take a variety of courses including language, numeracy, work skills, art, physical education.  Student's are assessed using the TDSB alternative expectations curriculum and follow the same reporting schedule as the other programs at OCI.  Student's in the DD program are given many opportunities for inclusion; they eat lunch with other OCI students, attend all the assemblies, special events and performances as well as contribute to school culture through their art and contributions to the recycling and nutrition programs.

Transportation:

  • Students will be met at the bus when it arrives at Oakwood to ensure safe arrival.

  • Please call the bus company with any questions or concerns that you have regarding transportation.  Further information can be found on the BusPlanner website

Lunch:

  • Please send lunch with your child.  For information on our lunch program please contact your child's teacher

  • Students will be supervised at lunch by our Educational Assistants and our Noon Hour Assistants

Oakwood's Resource program

There are 2 levels of support at OCI.  Please connect with your child's MART at their grade 8 school or the Special Education Department at OCI to see which level of support will meet your child's needs.

Indirect Support - the student's needs can be met in the regular class through the use of an Individual Education Plan and the regular classroom teacher will consult with the special education teacher as needed.

Resource Support - the student's needs can be met in the regular class through the use of an Individual Education Plan and the student receives a full class of resource support by being timetabled in the General Learning Strategies (GLE) course.  Student may take GLE each year of secondary school and will receive an elective credit towards their OSSD upon successful completion of the credit.
