Grade 9 Dramatic Arts - ADA1O1

This course emphasizes the active exploration of dramatic forms and techniques, using material from a wide range of authors, genres, and cultures. Students will construct, discuss, perform, and analyze drama. They will then reflect on these experiences to develop an understanding of themselves, the art form, and the world around them.

Grade 10 Dramatic Arts - ADA2O1

Are you interested in acting, directing, or theatre production? Are you looking for a creative outlet in your busy timetable? This course requires students to actively explore dramatic forms and techniques using their own ideas and concerns as well as sources selected from a wide range of authors, genres, and cultures. Student will learn to use space, time, voice, and movement in creating, sustaining, and communicating authentic characters within a drama. Students will develop monologues, scenes, and short plays, assuming responsibility for decisions made in both creation and presentation and will analyze and reflect on the experience.

Grade 11 Dramatic Arts - ADA3M1

This course requires students to put together and perform dramatic presentations that deal with a variety of issues from the past and present. Students will analyze, interpret and perform works of drama from various cultures and time periods. Students will experiment with techniques for building character from the inside and from the outside and apply this technique to their performances throughout the course. Student will do research on different acting styles and conventions for their presentations, create original works and reflect on the functions of playwright, director, actor, technician and audience.
Prerequisite: Dramatic Arts, Grade 9 or 10, Open

Grade 12 Dramatic Arts - ADA4M1
This course requires students to experiment individually and collaboratively with forms and conventions of both drama and theatre from various cultures and time periods. Student will interpret dramatic literature and other texts and media sources while leaning about various theories of directing and acting. Students will examine the significance of dramatic arts in various cultures, and will analyze how the knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their personal skills, social awareness, and goals beyond secondary school. Students will perform for a variety of audiences both in and out of school and will reflect on the experience of the process and success of the performance. 
Prerequisite: Dramatic Arts, Grade 11 Open or University/College Preparation
