Co-operative Education is an experiential education program for Grade 11 and 12 students which combines job preparation skills with a practical experience in the workplace. At ECI we offer 2 credit (1/2 day) and 4 credit (full day) coop programs each semester. Co-operative education is a valuable learning experience which helps students make informed decisions about their future careers. Students can “try out “ a career before they invest in post-secondary education and make sure it is the right career pathway for them. Students experience real world expectations in the workplace and develop their essential skills.
Two Co-op credits can count as compulsory credits towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), however students can earn up to 12 coop credits as optional credits.
Students can choose to explore a career based on their own interests. Teachers do their best to find a placement that matches the student’s interests and skills.

DUAL CREDITS
Dual Credit programs are ministry-approved programs that allow high school students to take a course at Humber College, Seneca College, George Brown College or Centennial College while they are working towards finishing high school. Once completed, the course counts as a college course and as a high school credit. Dual Credit courses are free to high school students and transportation funding to and from the college is provided by the Ministry of Education. It is a great opportunity for your students to experience post-secondary learning at no financial cost to them.

SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR IN MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES AND ROBOTICS
The Specialist High Skills Major Program is a Ministry-approved program that offers students the opportunity to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
At ECI, we have a SHSM program in Manufacturing Engineering Technologies and Robotics. Grade 11 and 12 students enrolled in the SHSM program obtain valuable work-related skills, knowledge and certifications recognized by the industry.
Students in SHSM gain a better awareness of the range of career opportunities in Engineering/ Manufacturing and Robotics industries and they will be better prepared for their post secondary studies and work in this field. SHSM students graduate with a High School Diploma with a Red Seal designating their high school specialization in Manufacturing Engineering Technologies and Robotics. SHSM students complete a bundle of required courses in grade 11 and 12 including 2 credits of co-op.

ONTARIO YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Testimonials from students:
“I very highly encourage everyone to take coop during their years in high school. High school is the time to plan for the future so how can you decide what to study or become if you have no clue? – You take coop! Coop gives you a taste of the real world; gives you real life experiences that no textbook can ever teach.”
- Pauline P. 2015/2016 (She earned 6 credits in cooperative education over 3 semesters.)
