Tree in front of the schoolCassandra P.S. is located near Lawrence and the Don Valley Parkway. The school opened in 1965, with the planting of the gingko tree, which is represented in the school logo. Our Habitat 2000 School/Community Project continues to provide environmental awareness and "greening" on the schoolyard.

The gingko tree was once widely scattered over the globe according to fossil evidence. The oldest leaf fossils of gingko trees predate the dinosaurs back to about 270 million years ago. The gingko may be the oldest living seed plant. The gingko tree is thus considered by some to be one of the Wonders of the World. The oldest individual living gingko trees in the world today are found in the temple grounds of China, Korea and Japan. Some of these trees are said to be 4000 years old. And you thought it was just a pretty tree!
