Courses in the Music Department

Grade 9

Band, Open (AMI 1O1)

Performance is the biggest component of these courses.Students will learn to play a wide variety of repertoire in class. Band and string students work towards several live orchestral performances during the semester and are required to practice independently and in an ensemble setting on a weekly basis. Students will enjoy an emphasis on improving intonation and technical ability on their instrument, and continuing the study of formal theoretical aspects of music. Students will demonstrate creativity through composition and will experience music appreciation through analysis, listening, and the history of music.

Strings, Open (AMS 1O1)

Vocal, Open (AMV 1O1)

A course in vocal music encompassing a variety of musical styles, ranging from traditional choral singing to vocal jazz. Emphasis is upon proper singing techniques, voice development, aural perception, and sight reading. Previous singing experience is not a necessity.




Grade 10
