School Councils are an excellent opportunity for parents to get involved in their child's education. Through the active participation of parents, the purpose of the School Council is to improve student achievement and their experiences within the school.
The School Council is made up of a committee of elected parents and staff representatives, appointed community members, and the principal / vice-principal. It is open to all parents of children attending the school. The School Council advises the principal on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, and renovation plans.
Because so many of our families live a significant distance from the school, it was a challenge for some families to attend in-person meetings. All our meetings are now virtual so that parents can attend from the comfort of their home or work and do not have to make their way to the school. We appreciate all input from our families and welcome any participation that is offered.
Sunny View’s School Council is involved in many aspects of our students experience at school, including fundraising, organizing parent workshops, supporting school events such as Pizza Night, and contributing to our Grade Eight students’ graduation ceremony. We are thankful for all the School Council does to enrich our students’ school experience.
