What is the Literacy Test?
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a province-wide test that will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. The test is usually taken by students in Grade 10 or its equivalent (ESL E), and measures whether or not they are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements students must meet to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
What's on the test?
The test is composed of reading selections with multiple-choice and open-response items, writing prompts with multiple choice writing items. The test is administered in one day in two 75-minute blocks. Individual accommodations can be provided to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Also, special provisions and extra time are available to students new to English (ESL and former ESL students, as long as you did ESL in high school).
