At Thistletown Collegiate Institute, we’re here to help you throughout high school as well as help you plan for post-secondary pathways. Our wraparound supports include guidance and attendance counseling, special education and inclusion supports, as well as social work and child & youth supports. You will also find assistance with co-op education & experiential learning, and support for newcomers to Canada. Connect with us either in person, by phone, or through email. Students are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities before graduation.

School staff will discuss appropriate types of community involvement activities and projects with students and may offer suggestions, but the selection and management of the involvement is to be directed by the student.
The TDSB publishes a list of approved and non-approved activities. Students choosing an activity not on the approved list must apply for permission in writing to the school Principal.
Activities may take place inside or outside the school. If inside, activities may not be part of a credit course.
The student may not displace a worker who would normally have been paid to perform the same function or receive pay.
Community involvement may begin in the summer after Grade 8.
An indication of completion will be entered on the student’s Ontario Student Transcript when the 40 hours have been submitted and approved.

Specialist High Skills Major offers you an opportunity to complete your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while focusing on a specific economic sector and supporting transitions to college, apprenticeship, university and the workplace.

Every SHSM must include the following five components, which are outlined in detail in ministry-approved frameworks developed for each area of specialisation:

A defined bundle of credits consisting of eight to ten Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits, including cooperative education credits.
Certification and training experiences Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector.
Reach ahead experiences.
Sector-partnered experiences in which students engage with a sector partner to explore sector-related content, skills, and knowledge involving either ICE (innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship), coding, or mathematical literacy.

The Advanced Placement Program (AP) is a cooperative agreement between participating secondary schools and post-secondary institutions. AP courses permit you to undertake additional academic content as identified by postsecondary institutions.
