The TCI Learning Commons is a full teaching library. Class, small group, and individual research projects are planned and completed here with the help of the teacher librarian in conjunction with the classroom teacher. In addition to providing quiet areas for study and homework for students, the Learning Commons houses thousands of traditional and electronic resources.
We have a computer lab of 33 stations. Internet access is available on all computers. Books may be signed out for a two week period and may be renewed. The reference section is extensive and both the fiction and non-fiction collections are continually updated on a regular basis.
Here are a few updates:
Newly renovated
- Updated book collection based on staff and students’ recommendations
- Culturally relevant and diverse reading selection
- Open daily before and after school, as well as during lunchtime
- Supported by TCI COOP students and a large number of student volunteers, who make up the Library Club
- The Library Club offers students the opportunity to volunteer and work in the library. Students are trained to sign in/our books, help other students with their search, arrange book displays, plan and lead lunchtime activities for students
- Read n’ Chat book club meets monthly to chat about what we’re reading, and recommend other books to each other
- We host information sessions, conferences, workshops on a variety of topics and other events, such as Arts Week and the Black Inventors Museum, the programs and clubs for newcomer students, the chess club, skills competitions
- We enjoyed a trip to the Toronto Reference Library and the Royal Ontario Museum, in June 2023
