Italy Trip 2023

Welcome to TCI

Thistletown Collegiate Institute (TCI) is a safe and caring school dedicated to student success. Our longstanding tradition of academic excellence and rich co-curricular programs make TCI a very rewarding place of learning. We honour all pathways and provide great opportunities for all students to prepare for university, college, apprenticeship and the world of work. In addition to a very strong core program, we offer our students terrific opportunities in the Arts, Physical Education, Co-operative Education and Technology including Specialist High Skills Majors in Hospitality & Tourism (Food),  Arts & Culture  (Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts) and ICT Robotics! Many of our graduates go on to post-secondary institutions with prestigious awards and scholarships.

Thistletown CI students who participated in the Summer Student Leadership and Basketball Camp this past summer were involved as Student Leaders and Ambassadors at the 2 day Community Basketball Camp with Eugene,  and many other basketball coaches and athletes  in the OBA and local basketball associations.

Everyone donated their time to come out and support our students and youth in the community.  The event had many sponsors including the NBA, Nike, and The University of Oregon. This 2-day event provided an amazing opportunity for our youth, ages 6 to 18 who truly enjoyed their experiences and participation.   Many great moments to cherish!

TCI Supporting Cancer Research

PMCF

From April 17th to May 30, SAC ran our annual Cuts for Cancer Awareness campaign. It was a great opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, build school spirit and help people affected by cancer.

We hosted several events throughout the month to fundraise for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, as well as to raise awareness for cancer and its adverse effects. These events included a jewellery sale, henna on hands, samosa sale, in addition to our whack-a-sac and tape-a-teacher fundraiser.

On May 29 April, staff and students donated their hair at our Cuts for Cancer Assembly, where all money donated at the assembly went to Cancer research. In total, TCI raised an impressive $2200 for Cancer research! Thank you to all for  your support and generous donations to such a worthy cause.

2023 OSSLT

OSSLT

The spring's EQAO literacy results allowed us to end the semester on a high note. 79% of those who participated in the spring test passed. Those who were most successful were those whom we targeted to receive small group and one on one tutoring prior to the test. Within this group of 23, 20 passed the test. In September a practice literacy test will be held for all grade 9s and 10s in order to flag more students more quickly and to give them the remedial help they require. Cross curricular literacy practice quizzes on every second Friday will also continue in the first semester for both grade 9’s and 10’s. We thank you, the parents, for all that you continue doing to help us.
