It is never too early for students to start their research on their post secondary opportunities. Most Universities and Colleges will be visiting Woburn in the Fall. Check your agenda and listen to announcements for these dates. As well the Ontario University Fair (www.ouf.ca) and Ontario College Fair take place downtown in the Fall. This an opportunity to talk to all the reps from the universities and colleges about the different programs.

Many of the community colleges are offering great coop apprenticeship opportunities.

OYAP - (www.oyap.com) Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program is a unique "school to career" program specifically developed to prepare high school students to make a smooth transition from high school into their post secondary apprenticeship program. By participating in this program, high school students get a head start on their desired apprenticeship while completing their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. OYAP integrates in-school learning through Technology, Math, Science and English courses with practical experience obtained through Cooperative Education placements. Our goal is to have participating students develop the work habits, knowledge, attitude and skills necessary for success in the workplace. Woburn students may access this program through either the Cooperative education or Guidance Departments

Financial Aid

There are a number of ways for students to access funds to finance their post secondary education. Loans, bursaries and scholarships are available to all students.

Scholarship information is sent into guidance throughout the year. These are posted on our scholarship board. See Ms. Filoso or Ms. Edwards for more information.

Loans can be applied for through the Ontario Student Assistant Program (OSAP) and your bank. OSAP can be applied for in the spring when you confirm the post-secondary institution you will be attending. A representative will be in the school in the spring to talk about OSAP (http://osap.gov.on.ca)

Students should check their college or university to research additional financial aid they have to offer students.
