False fire alarms disrupt learning in all classes. In order to maintain our safe, orderly environment at Woburn, all staff and students need to be vigilant and to report any suspicious actions to the office.
When a continuous sounding of the fire alarm occurs we are all obliged by law to immediately evacuate the building without stopping for coats. All staff and students in the building are to exit by the closest or by the designated fire exit dooras posted in each classroom.
The first teacher to leave a particular exit will ask two students to hold open the doors. Everyone is required to move at least 15 - 20 metres away from the building and entrance doors, and not to re-enter the school until the all-clear signal is sounded.
Causing a false alarm or misusing firefighting equipment is a criminal offence. Offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, which may include a fine of up to $10,000 and imprisonment up to two years if arrested and convicted. In addition to the criminal prosecution, a school suspension will result.
