Principal's Message

Principal Message

Westview Centennial is a very special place.I proudly taught at Westview for almost twenty years and had the privilege to work with some of the best students, staff and community members that I have ever known.I have loved our students, staff and community. After becoming an administrator, I was transferred from Westview but vowed that I would return.

On February 3, 2023, I returned in the role of Principal. My commitment to this school and community since joining it at age 23 is unwavering.Along with my fellow administrators and colleagues we remain committed to equity and excellence. We know how capable our students are and expect them to be leaders in our community, in our city, in our country and beyond.

Westview is one of the seven TDSB schools with a Specialized Arts Program starting September 2024.We are excited to see the investment in the Arts and the recognition of the creative talent in our community. The Arts provide a very rich secondary school experience for our students and have produced many internationally recognised creators in the Arts and other fields.

We have a wide range of academic programs at Westview which are designed to not only prepare our students for post-secondary education, but to improve their global competencies.  Our four Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) – in Arts, Health Care, Construction and Transportation – open many university/college opportunities for our students. Collaboration among our Technology, Mathematics and Science teams give the students the knowledge and skills required to be successful in many STEM related fields.  We are especially proud to say that our Robotics program is one of the oldest in the board and has won many local, national and international awards.

Our special programs such as Law Within Schools (LAWS) gives access to a legal perspective across curriculum subjects and many opportunities, along with scholarships and bursaries. We also partner with Success Beyond Limits (SBL) to give incoming grade 9 students a secondary school experience which allows them to earn a high school credit in the summer prior to their start at Westview.

However, Westview provides far more than just excellent academic programs.  We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities.  These include many varsity and intramural athletics teams, clubs and groups.  Our athletes have received many individual and team regional, city and provincial awards, and a number of our graduates have received athletic scholarships over the years. We would like to thank our amazing staff, community coaches and supervisors who make these opportunities possible for our students.

We know that Westview is an outstanding community.Proof of this is the number of graduates leading successfully in every field, in every part of the world, and the many that regularly come back (and give back) to our school.

It is an honour to serve this community and I join with our current and former students and staff when I say PROUDLY #WeAreWestview.

Warmly,

Rosalie Griffith
