Principal's Message

Principal

On September 5th, 2017, I followed in the footsteps of many great women and men who have occupied the office of principal at our awesome school, Westview Centennial Secondary School.   I have since discovered that Westview is indeed the hidden gem in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

We have a wide range of academic programs at Westview which are designed to not only prepare our students for post-secondary education, but to improve their global competencies.  Our four Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) open many university/college opportunities for our students. Collaboration among our Technology, Mathematics and Science teams give the students the knowledge and skills required to be successful in many STEM related fields.  We are especially proud to say that our Robotics program is one of the oldest in the board and has won many local, national and international awards. The Arts provide a very rich secondary school experience for our students and have produced many internationally recognised former students in the Arts and other fields.  The strength of Arts programming is measured by the high number of graduates who return to give back to the school.  Our special programs such as Law Within Schools (LAWS) and Accelerated Credit Experience (ACE) are well known for their scholarships.  For example, the ACE program allows students to take a university course during their last year at Westview.  This course then counts towards their graduation credit requirement in university.  We partner with Success Beyond Limits (SBL) to give our incoming grade 9 students a secondary school experience which culminates in them earning a high school credit the summer before they arrive at Westview.  As a result of these amazing programs, legions of our graduates have received scholarships and bursaries.

However, Westview provides far more than just excellent academic programs.  We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities.  These include many varsity and intramural athletics teams, clubs and groups.  Our athletes have received many individual and team regional, city and provincial awards.  We would like to thank our amazing staff, community coaches and supervisors who make these opportunities possible for our students.

Westview is home to many excellent teachers, support staff, caretaking staff and volunteers.  These shareholders contribute the extra efforts required for students to excel.  Our parents send us their very best kids and we thank them very much for that.

Thanks you,

Monday Gala, PhD
