Visual Arts at Westview is focused on building skills with student voice at the forefront. Students explore and hone various techniques in drawing, painting, print, digital media and 3 dimensional art to then apply those skills to their artwork. The works created, are expressions of students' own stories and lived experiences - from their home life, community, school, city and culture to their joys and hardships. Our art students hold up mirrors to the social justice issues that surround them and expose truths of their effects. It takes skill to create. It takes courage to create powerful and meaningful art. And, it takes heart to feel the expressions as they are being created. Much time is spent in our studio spaces developing and nurturing great relationships that then allow for vulnerabilities to be felt, strength to be owned and voices to be heard.
