Week 33

Downsview Secondary School
Student of the Week
Week of June 10, 2019

Lucky N.

Downsview, for the week of June 10th, your Student of the Week is Lucky N.
Lucky is in the tenth grade at Downsview.

Lucky’s nomination has roots with his mentors in the Breakfast Club area. Hear this from Chef Sandra, Ms de Jersey and Jodi, our Child and Youth Counsellor: “Lucky is a delight as a Breakfast Club volunteer. Aside from being utterly reliable and punctual, he is kind and thoughtful in a deep way;  he knows everyone’s order, making them feel like regulars in a welcoming space. He respects all guests in Breakfast Club equally, regardless of age or position – his quiet and thoughtful demeanour radiates warmth to all. Lucky is on the quiet side, but this does not mean that he is meek. He speaks when he has something to say and he often surprises us with his quick wit. Lucky has mentioned aspirations to become a police officer. If he follows this path, we can all rest well, knowing that someone as kind, smart and steady as Lucky has our backs. Whatever Lucky pursues, that winning smile and that excellent attitude point toward his success.”

Lucky’s great attitude extends beyond the reaches of our Breakfast Club. Let’s hear from a couple of his teachers. First, from Ms Maloney: “I have watched Lucky's increased participation into student life at Downsview with pleasure. It's great to have such an engaged individual in my classes.” And, from Mr MacDonald: “Downsview is fortunate to have a student like Lucky at our school. His positive vibes and friendly attitude are contagious. I see him ready to go every morning volunteering with the breakfast club and it puts me in a good mood. He has been a keen keyboarding student this semester, taking on a new skill with enthusiasm and humour. I hope to teach this student of the week again in the future. Congrats! 👏

The selection of each Student of the Week comes with great deliberation, but the selection of the first and the final Student of the Week each year takes just a little more thought. We want to start the year with a student who represents DSS well, and end the year with a student who has shown leadership, kindness and well-rounded, fine character. Lucky, you fit the bill and you are our choice. Congratulations on your win as our final Student of the Week for the 2018-2019 school year.
