What happens to water when it hits the ground as precipitation? This question is the primary guiding inquiry for this program which takes place at your school, in your school yard, and/or in a nearby green space.  Water can interact by penetrating (permeates and infiltrates), flowing (along or under surfaces), or evaporating (to the atmosphere) - sometimes all three. Students will spend the day outdoors exploring what happens when water meets the different human-made and natural surfaces in the community, as well as participating in a variety of activities - simulations, games, field work - to compare and contrast water’s interaction with urban and natural materials. By the end of the day, students will begin to understand how humans affect (interrupt, change, impact) the journey of water in our community.
