Program Specific Information
- To be successful, this program includes pre-visit student preparation that is essential for program success. You must download and print out each of:
- teacher checklist (1 copy),
- "story ideas booklet" (3-4 copies),
- "student writing booklet" (1 copy per pair of students) and
- Download and print the student storyboard (1 copy per pair of students);
please make sure students come prepared!
- You and your students can view the image library to help with ideas (but, your students may collect their own images):
- background images are at least 600x450 pixels
- "actor" images are smaller, and go on top of the background
- bring any collected images on a USB key, or similar device or store on Google Drive
-- PLEASE COLLECT IMAGES AS IMAGE FILES (JPG, GIF, PNG), AND NOT EMBEDDED IN A WORD DOCUMENT OR GOOGLE DOCUMENT
- Before coming, remind students:
- this program is not “an outing”, it is a “work day”
- bring a bottle of water
- all program materials are provided
- if students collect images to support their story, bring them to TUSC on a USB drive, stored on AW, etc.
- Students need to bring a waste-free lunch and a drink. Water only please. TUSC is a Platinum EcoSchool - Waste-Free Lunches are expected!
- Adult volunteers need two TTC tickets
Location and Travel Instructions
The
Toronto Urban Studies Centre I.T. lab is located in Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute, 800 Greenwood Avenue, one block north of Danforth Avenue at Strathmore Boulevard.
by TTC:
Go to the Greenwood Subway Station. Walk one block west along Strathmore Boulevard; enter the school via the the door at the south east corner of Greenwood and Strathmore Avenues and follow the signs to Room A20.
by School Bus:
drop-off & pick-up: Buses stop on the north side of Strathmore Boulevard. Students enter by the south east door (entrance #2) and follow the signs to Room A20. Students are picked up at the same location.
